Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons that exists as a liquid in underground geologic formations and remains a liquid when brought to the surface. Petroleum products are produced from the processing of crude oil and other liquids at petroleum refineries, from the extraction of liquid hydrocarbons at natural gas processing plants, and from the production of finished petroleum products at blending facilities. Except the gas component in the petroleum, the rest of the mixture is known as crude oil. It is a liquid. Alkanes, cycloalkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons are mainly found in crude oil. There are other organic compounds containing nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur and other metals. Petroleum includes more than just crude oil. Petroleum includes more products than just crude oil. Petroleum includes refined petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, unfinished oils, and other liquids such as fuel ethanol, blending components for gasoline, and other refinery inputs. They both are the same. However petroleum is something which is derived from crude oil. Crude oil is which we get from drilling beneath the surface of the earth. On processing crude oil in refinery we get products such as petroleum, diesel, wax, n

Sweet crude contains small amounts of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide. If the sulfur content in the crude is greater than 0.5%, it is categorized as sour in nature. EIA has classified different types of crude oil available in the market based on the above factors. Primary stocks include crude oil or petroleum products held in storage at (or in) leases, refineries, natural gas processing plants, pipelines, tank farms, and bulk terminals that can store at least 50,000 barrels of petroleum products or that can receive petroleum products by tanker, barge, or pipeline. Petroleum refineries convert crude oil and other liquids into many petroleum products that people use every day. Most refineries focus on producing transportation fuels. On average, U.S. refineries produce, from a 42-gallon barrel of crude oil, about 19 to 20 gallons of motor gasoline , 11 to 12 gallons of distillate fuel , most of which is Oil Refinery: An industrial plant that refines crude oil into petroleum products such as diesel, gasoline and heating oils. Oil refineries essentially serve as the second stage in the production Crude oil prices make up 71 percent of the price of gasoline. The rest of what you pay at the pump depends on refinery and distribution costs, corporate profits, and federal taxes. These costs remain stable, so that the daily change in the price of gasoline accurately reflects oil price fluctuations. The terms sweet and sour are a reference to the sulfur content of crude oil. Early prospectors would taste oil to determine its quality, with low sulfur oil actually tasting sweet. Crude is currently considered sweet if it contains less than 0.5% sulfur. Sweet crude is easier to refine and safer to extract and transport than sour crude. Crude oil prices & gas price charts. Oil price charts for Brent Crude, WTI & oil futures.
